Bad news to all Kenyans parents and guardians as this chilling reports emerges barely a day after school reopening across the country. According to the Ministry of Education all learners in both primary and secondary schools were expected to open for term two of 2021 on 12th October. Worryingly parents say that the high cost of travel had added to their financial strain brought about by Covid 19 effects.

Besides increasing fares, most of the Public Service Vehicles and motorbikes carried beyond allowed capacity, therefore notwithstanding the Covid 19 protocols.

Parents who had accompanied their children to school complained about the high fares and called for government intervention.

The situation was no different in Kisumu and Homabay counties where learners were rushing back to school.

Therefore thousands of students yesterday flocked bus terminus across the country as schools reopened for second term after one week break. The rush to get back to school, however came at an extra cost as drivers and vehicle owners took advantage of the situation to hike fares.
