Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is a constitutional commission mandated to manage human resources in education sector in the country. The commission employs, transfer, promote and retain teachers in all public schools in the country. Teachers service commission also registers teachers before they can be allowed to teach in any school in the country. The commission is headed by Dr Nancy Macharia who is chief executive officer.
Today National Assembly has approves the nomination of Dr Jamleck Muturi as chairperson of teachers service commission. Education Committee Chair Hon Hon Florence Mutua moved a motion for the house to approve the nomination for appointment of Dr. Jamleck Muturi as chair of the TSC. The house unanimously approved his nominations and he will now succeed Prof Lydia Nzomo who retired early this year.
National Assembly also approved nomination of Mr Alfred Oyucho as member of the commission. The approval of Dr Jamleck Muturi as chairperson of TSC is a good news to teachers as he has been at a frontline to fight for the welfare and good working condition for all teachers. His rise to the helm of TSC will be of great benefit to teachers.
