Maranda high school had been founded by the late Shadrack Agot Osewe. Osewe, the sanctity educator at Kapiyo village which is in Bondo District, went to Amolo Raila who is Raila Odinga’s grandfather to request for a plot to erect the school. He first constructed his house and there after erected a place of worship.(church).
Osewe's first learners included the aged, who were equipped with skills on how to read and write, which went hand in hand with Christianity.
However, formal elementary education had been launched with the help of the Church Missionary Society. The educators taught under the instructions of Osewe. They included Ibrahim Odinga, whose salary ranged between six to ten shillings.
Moreover, the school upgraded its status after a short period of time and became a boarding school. The school which is about five kilometres from Bondo town spread its fame for its good academic performance in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
According to Maranda High School Alumni Association, most of the teachers at the school are also old boys.
However, the former Prime Minister and ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga shaped his destiny at the school, not forgetting his blood brother Dr Oburu Oginga.
Other old boys of the school include: Karachuonyo MP James Rege, Justice Nicholas Ombija and Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo.
