According to a police report on the 21st of september 2021.Fresh details have emerged on the cause of the fire in Ofafa Jericho high school.
The report reads that the teacher on duty had directed students to go and attend the evening preps earlier on before the onset of the fire.
However some of the students stayed in the dormitories and did not go to class. The teacher on realizing this went back to the dormitory to get the students who had stayed back.
Most of those who has stayed behind went to class this time but one did not.The report says that he went and set on fire one of the cubes that was housing 20 students, luckily nobody was at the dormitory at the moment.
The fire however destroyed lots of the students personal and school property. The students, teachers and stafffchipped in to stop the fire before it could spread to other cubes.
50 students were hospitalized at the Buruburu metropolitan hospital following smoke inhalation injuries as they tried to put out the fire. All of them are in stable condition and out of danger.
Some of the students may however need to be kept for at least 24 hrs for observations.Investigations are ongoing to figure out if there were any accomplices to the act.
Fire outbreaks in boarding schools has been rampant for the past few months in the country. Most resulting in destruction and loss of a lot of property. Most of the fires are started by students.
Its about time the students realized that is is a bad way of trying to solve conflicts.I think the ministry of education should find a way to let the grievances of the students be heard in a more amicable way. This will bring this vicious trend to a stop.
