According to the current education curriculum; Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), learners who are under this bracket are expected to join junior secondary schools after completing their grade six syllabus. This is expected to happen in the year 2023,where those learners who are in grade five today will be joining secondary schools within the country.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has finally settled the debate on which teachers will handle learners in junior secondary schools. According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, these will be teachers with the following qualifications:
1. Diploma and degree in special Needs Education.
2. Diploma and Degree in Early Childhood Development Education.
3. Diploma in Education (Primary Option)
4. Diploma in Education (Secondary Option)
5. Degree in Education (Secondary Option) but lacking C+ at KCSE or C+ in teaching subjects.
This report is meant to prepare teachers in advance and to avoid confusion when transition time comes. This will also make it easy for TSC to allocate teachers in these new institutions.
