A series of classrooms in Matarmat Primary School in Merigi Ward, Bomet East were last night burnt down following an arson attack. School property of unestablished value was destroyed during the midnight inferno.
Matarmat Primary School is the latest learning institution to be burnt down. This follows a series of unrests in learning institutions across the country. The cause of the inferno is yet to be established.
Police officers in Bomet County have since launched investigations into the matter, with residents and leaders from the area condemning the wayward act.
Since the beginning of August, over seven schools have been destroyed in similar circumstances. Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha recently condemned student's unrests in schools which has led to destruction of property.
Students have been asked to desist from committing arson offences. Similarly, schools have in the past been urged to introduce guiding and counseling sessions to help combat the rising menace.
