Skipping school prevented as government distribute sanitary towel

Cases of students missing school have gone down in the county following the government initiatives to distribute sanitary towel.

Speaking to KNA the Bungoma D.E.B school health teacher Mrs Olivia Abel who is in charge of the distribution applauds the government for remembering the girl child so that they can also stay in school.

“We thank the government for their care and efforts of supplying sanitary pads, without sanitary towel most of them skip school but since the handing out of pads begun they are now comfortable and attend school perfectly, “said Mrs Abel. 

She also pointed out the consistency of the county government in supplying the sanitary pads even during the attack of coronavirus pandemic.

The attendance of girls in school has been increased even after the covid 19 periods where it was expected that most girls will get expectant.

The young girls are educated and given instruction on how to use sanitary towels and also their menstrual hygiene.

Bungoma County has officially commenced the distribution of sanitary towels in public primary schools in the county.

A girl child who’s prevented from going to school because she cannot afford sanitary towels is a crisis Bungoma county education sector wishes to overcome.

The handing out of the sanitary towels targets the 91 primary schools, girls, in the Bungoma South sub-county.

 Bungoma south has been allocated 100,000 packets of sanitary towel to cater to the girls in class 5,6,7,8 in the county.

More than 100,000 girls will benefit from this programme especially those who hail from poor families.

However, there so many challenges affecting the distribution but it provide many solutions.
