Kibabii University in Bungoma County has donated 13,000 books to primary, secondaries and Community libraries.
Flagging off the books consignment to 13 schools including community libraries, Kibabii University Vice Chancellor Prof.Isaac Ipara Odeo said that the books will go a long way in enhancing the read culture.
"There is a team that identified the beneficiary schools and we hope to make it an annual event so that many more can benefit from us," he said.
The VC also noted that they trained 13 librarians from different schools who will in turn help in maintaining the books and ensure that students and majority Kenyans benefit from the books.
Prof.Odeo also averred that the provision of books will help in championing education in Bungoma County and enhance the reading culture.
"We are enhancing quality education in the region, as a higher learning institution we saw it good to use our little resources to benefit the community," he said.
He pointed out that due to poor reading culture in Africa, many people are having poor communication skills and the books will help in reducing the gap.
Odeo noted that the good reading habit is mostly done by people of Western countries.
"Let's enhance the best reading culture, we have trained librarians on how to set up and maintain a library in Africa, let people value to read books and get knowledge," he advised.
Some of the 13 schools and libraries that benefitted from the donated books include; Friends school Pongola, The SA Kabuchai girls, St.Peters Girls secondary school Mwiruti, St.Mary's Kibabii boarding primary, The Immaculate of Mary Luhya girls secondary school, Kibabii talent Academy.
Others are Friends secondary school Misanga, Kibabii University -Children library section, St.Kizito Mukhweya primary, Sichei friends secondary school, Busakala secondary school, Namilama secondary school, Maliki boys high school and Eluuya girls secondary.
