The Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is a Kenyan new system of education designed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) team in replacement of the former 8-4-4 system. The CBC is designed to emphasize the significance of developing skills and knowledge and applying those skills in solving daily life challenges. The system is more beneficial if implemented accordingly and get its maximum follow-up from the ministry of education.
CBC offers so many benefits not only to the learners but also the parents and teachers. The curriculum applies 2-6-6-3 system with classes being named as Grades and has the major divisions that include:

The CBC’S central focus is around learners discovering their potentials in life in their early age. It create a platform where the learner can positively relate to acquiring knowledge and skills to connect to various disciplines as they as they advance to their heights.

Involving learners in community service expose them to apply the knowledge acquired during their learning period. Practicing their community development skills creates a ground for the teachers to spot learners’ creativity and potential in discovering specific talents.
Distinction of Theory and Practical
Unlike 8-4-4 system, CBC system test the ability of the learners to distinguish what they have learned in class theoretically and how practically they can follow instructions approaches in applying the skills outside. In this manner teachers can identify every learner’s potential and know what works for them. As a result, it become easier to help learner improve their strength and overcome their weaknesses.

CBC provide learners with a diverse opportunities to learn from to help them narrow to talent identification and potential exploration according to their needs and capabilities. The system encourage learners to develop a positive attitude towards education by allowing them to access equal education opportunities.
Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking
The CBC system expose the learners to a learning system that demands them to reason, make a reasonable judgments and use creativity in arriving at solutions. As opposed to 8-4-4 system which was formerly used where learners were required to remember what they were taught, CBC enables the understanding. Every challenge has an explanation attached. They have to find out to arrive at the solution without simply cramming an answer.
