Jwan Julius, the principal secretary for early learning and basic education, has urged schools to let kids spend time with their families during this break from classes.
Jwan was speaking at the present annual convention of the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) in Mombasa county.
He issued a strong warning against vacation tuition in schools, which is against government policy.
The warning comes as students are due to return to school on July 11 for the second term after their vacation, which began on July 1.
The Ministry of Education outlawed holiday tuition in 2008, referring to it as "jail tuition," for both private and public institutions in the nation.
During the event, Professor George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, gave the order to examine all private schools to gauge their level of readiness for the Junior Secondary School (JSS) start the next year.
