University is one of the most expensive institution to study in. In most cases, students rely on the government sponsorship and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to sustain themselves in the university. When KCSE are released, the ministry of education comes up with the cut point for joining University under the government sponsorship. The government caters for a certain percentage of fees then the remaining balance students apply for helb.
There is a certain percentage of Helb and bursary that one can get per year. One does not give instructions on what he/she wants but the board decides on what to give. This brings some equality to all students. Thereafter, they are expected to pay for this money one year after graduation.
Well, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has now made it clear on this. You can be awarded a maximum loan of Sh 60,000 and a bursary of Sh 8,000 based on the applicant's level of need.
