Story of Girls-Only National School Formerly Named After Late Queen Elizabeth’s Aunt

Located in Pangani sub-location, Kariokor location, in Starehe constituency, Nairobi county, along Juja road , Pangani Girls school remains one of the top performing schools in the country.

Pangani, a national girls-only public boarding institution was established in 1932 as a girls day school, and it was called Duchess of Gloucester School (named after the late Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester; an aunt by marriage to late Queen Elizabeth II).

Asian students predominantly populated it since Asians were common in the it’s current locality.

In the beginning, it offered Cambridge and Higher Cambridge education. The system is equivalent to levels O And A education. However, after Kenya attained its independence, the institution changed its name to Pangani Girls.

The school officially adopted boarding services in the year 1986. It also started admitting more non- Asian girls. At that time, it was a provincial school.

Since 1990, Pangani Girls has steadily risen as a top performing High school under the stewardship of Ruth Cheriuyot, who has since retired. The schools consistent high performance over the years paid off. Pangani Girls School was certified as a National School in 2011 to offer more Kenyan girls a higher quality of secondary education.

Pangani Girls School Performance 

Pangani Girls is one of the national schools that have steadily maintained good performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination over the years.

In 2018, it had a candidature of 282, who managed to score a mean of a B+ with a performance index of 70.281.

In 2019, the centre registered about 270 candidates. The student recorded an impressive mean score of 9.56 (B+) and the institution was ranked thirteenth nationwide.

Pangani Girls School Uniform

Students at pangani wear a school uniform that constitutes a white blouse, light blue skirt, navy blue pullover, white socks, and black pair of shoes.

Pangani Girls School Fee 

The school has not disclosed its current fee to the public. Therefore, one is required to visit the institution to get accurate information regarding current payable school fees. However, as per the national schools fees structure, institutions in its category are supposed to charge an annual fee of Ksh. 75,789.

Pangani Girls Alumni

Formed and registered in 2015, Pangani Girls Alumni Association has been passionate about helping bright financially disadvantaged students secure their education at Pangani Girls.

The association empowers the girls through sponsorship, mentorship, sporting activities and general welfare whenever called upon.
