Swahili To The World: Julius Malema Calls on Countrymen To Adopt Swahili in South African Schools

The Swahili language has been widely accepted in a majority of countries within the Eastern and Central African regions.

The language is a national mode of communication and a symbol of unity in the country, as it is in our neighbor, Tanzania.

Tanzanians, however, have made the language their official mode of communication. It is used during formal events as well as in teaching and giving instructions.

Yoweri Museveni has also moved swiftly to make the language a compulsory subject in Uganda just recently.

Controversial The South African politician, Hon Julius Malema, has called on Africans to embrace the language as it is only through it that Africans will have one voice.

Malema argued that the language is dynamic and incorporates many African cultures. The fact that it is already being spoken in many countries also makes the language even more easily adoptable.

According to him, Africans appear divided by adopting the colonial languages.
