Over 14k teachers receive transfers ahead of school reopening, Nancy Macharia.

New year, new term, new teachers. Many teachers are going to begin the new term in a new environment. This is after their employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) approved their application of regional and inter-region transfer.

This comes before the ending of the deadline given to TSC by the National assembly's committee on education that wanted the body to reverse the delocalization policy that made teachers posted away from their home.

Citizen tv reported that teachers are required to report to their new work station before the reopening of the schools on January 23,2023.

Giving an example of Friends school Kamusinga in Bungoma county, they said the principal had already handed over to the new principal and that was what was expected in schools across the country.

Nancy Macharia in a circular instructed the commission secretary and regional directors to facilitate the transfer of the 14,613 teachers to their new work station.

The 14,613 entailed;10934 primary school teachers,189 deputy headteachers and 1,948 headteachers.Also;1,316 secondary school teachers and 226 principals.

The commission had earlier set a policy that demanded delocalised teachers to serve in Northern and Eastern region for 3 years and 5 years in other regions before qualifying for a transfer.

This transfer is the first to be conducted since the COVID-19 PANDEMIC which altered the exercise.

It's also the largest number of transfers to be undertaken by TSC in years.
