Education CS Prof. George Magoha has announced that the government will provide up to 9000 scholarship opportunities to some KCPE pupils. According to Magoha eligible students must demonstrate that they are needy and bright enough to qualify for the scholarship. CS Magoha made the announcement during the release of 2020 KCPE results. Therefore, eligible students should contact their nearest education office at the sub-county and county level for application details as soon as possible.
Additionally, CS Magoha has warned those who will try to bypass the process and enrol non-eligible students that they shall face prosecution. In the past, such government scholarship had been marred with allegations of corruption and unfair distribution of opportunities even to students with whose parents have high incomes. These acts of corruption denied poor but needy students a chance to proceed with their secondary education. However, CS Magoha has assured the country that the process of selecting the 9000 students will be transparent and fair with students selected from all the 47 counties.
Education has been regarded as a social equaliser between the rich and the poor. Therefore, such scholarship programs enable bright and needy students to access quality education that changes their lives. All eligible KCPE students in the just released results should take the opportunity and apply for the scholarships.
