A twenty three year old student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology by the name John Marambu has impressed Kenyans after he offered to buy shoes for needy students on his birthday. The third year student taking a bachelor's degree in medicine said that he felt sad seeing children from Mulama primary school in Kakamega county go to school barely without anyone to help them.
The student said this initiative to help those needy students who would brave the unforgiving scorching grounds and heat was more than a gift to him and it is something that gave him so much joy.He said that while most of his colleagues found solace in drinking alcohol and partying he found relief in helping others.
This medical student said those students remind him of his days when he could not afford shoes and would go to school bare foot hence he knows what it means to be in that position. Many Kenyans have praised this student for his humane act for offering those children shoes.
