Good News To Fresh Students Joining Universities As Application For Helb Loan Dates Are Released

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is responsible for providing financial aid to students enrolled in higher education institutions. HELB used to solely fund students who qualified for and enrolled in universities, but with a reform in the examination administration method in 2016, the board began to fund students who enrolled in colleges, polytechnics, and other higher institutions of learning.

Candidates for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are applying to various educational institutions based on their grades. Students with a grade of C+ (plain) or higher are allowed to enroll in colleges and pursue bachelor's degrees, unless they want to enroll in diploma courses. Those with a C- (minus) or C(plain) can apply for a diploma at a postsecondary institution, while those with a D- (minus) or higher can apply for craft. Artisan courses are available in polytechnics for students with E. In the academic year 2020/2021, this group will join educational institutions, and HELB will be responsible for sponsoring them.

Mr. Abdul Razaq Badru, executive director of the HELB, revealed that the board has already distributed 85 percent of the required funds to continuing students, with the remaining funds to be distributed next month. The government allotted 464 billion to the board in the previous fiscal year, 2020/2021, according to reports. The board's 500-billion-dollar plan has already been authorized by parliament for the current fiscal year. This represents a 36-billion-dollar increase over the previous budget.

The opening dates for the next academic year 2021/2022 were announced by HELB on Monday, June 7. The app will be available on July 1st, with the launch date set for June 25th. The five-day interval between the 25th of June and the 1st of July, according to Mr. Badru, is intended to provide information to new candidates and to verify the essential documents before they begin the application process. Once the students begin their studies, this will make the application process easier. Identification Card(ID), bank account, KRA pin, result slip, two guarantors with ID and KRA pins, parents/guardians ID, death certificate for orphans, and parents KRA pins if they are employed are some of the documents necessary for new applicants (2020 KCSE candidates). The next application period for continuing students will begin on July 1st.
