School Updates: Parents, Form Three and Class 7 Pupils To Bear The Impact Of The New School Calendar

The schools are set to reopen on 10th of May 2021. This will be marking the third term for all the high schoolers. Similarly for the primary schools this will be their third term. This is unusual state of affairs because normally May marks second term reopening dates. Have a look at the latest high school calendar.

From the calendar it is evident that parents are destined to have a rough time. Payment of school fees is usually advocated for to be done during the first part of each term. Looking at the short holidays which are meant for students to relax and prepare for the next classes, it's only 10days break. More so,all the terms have been shortened. This fact could really have adverse effects on parents and the students.

On Matters exams; from the timetable candidates will be sitting for the KCPE and KCSE exams in March next year. For class seven and form threes are in their 3rd terms. They have to cover a huge workload. All the four terms work has to be completed in the 9 months which run from May to February. Some would argue that this is poor planning but the truth is that the pandemic has really wrecked havoc in all sectors. Here is a photo of a parent escorting her children to school previously.

What do you think parents, teachers, students and the ministry must do to minimize the impact! Feel to share your views.
