How Online Writing Sharpens Your Thinking

Writing is a skill that we were taught when we were young. When most people nowadays think of writing, they associate it with school. Guess what, you do not have to be in school to write. And with the age of technology, a lot of it has shifted from pen and paper to keyboards and screens.

As it is, we are consuming a lot of information from the internet. An average person consumes around 1GB of information on a single day. This can get overwhelming and that is where writing comes in. Writing acts as a way of downloading that information and reducing the amount of baggage in your head.

When it comes to online writing, before publishing you always have a rough draft. That is where you write anything. It can be worthless or it might be good. If you are using a pen and paper, you have to let the pen flow, or if you are writing digitally, let your fingers just type anything that comes to mind.

This allows you to see your thinking on paper or screen, that is, where you are sharp and dull in your thinking. You can also use this as a way to trap your anxieties and worries in written form and get on with the rest of your day.

Afterwards, you can go ahead and edit your material for consumption on social media. If you decide not to share, you can edit for your own pleasure and enjoyment.

When you perform this exercise for quite some time, you will see it will positively affect just about anything in your life. Your reasoning, analysis and awareness of how you use words, explanation and questions will become significantly sharper. Therefore, for fulfilment, excitement, personal and professional success, writing is the most important practice.
