Incidents of kidnappings in the country have been happening for a very long time and when one is reported, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations immediately swings into action.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been able to capture a lot of kidnappers and reunite families with their loved ones for a long time now.
However, sometimes the kidnappings are nothing but hot air as some people kidnap themselves with the hope of scoring easy money from their families who would be distraught at the news and ready to give any amount to secure their release.
This evening, according to the available reliable reports that we have with us from Awendo, a 22 year old man who is form four student at a local secondary school is this evening in police custody.
This is after the young man who has been identified as Joseph Odhiambo was kidnapped and texts sent to his mother's phone demanding for a ransom for his release.
The mother rushed to the cops where she reported the matter but before cops could spring into action, the young man showed up at their home socked in blood.
He was taken to the police station for interrogation where he confessed to having kidnapped himself after disappearing from January 5th to 9th 2023.
In the text messages sent to his mother, he was demanding 20,000 Kenya shillings to secure his release as per the reports that we have with us.
He is even said to have bought animal blood at a local butchery to make it appear that he had been tortured.
