Assigned to protect the ongoing KCSE exams at Kimulot Secondary School in Bomet County, a police officer was caught on CCTV robbing the handbags of female invigilators. The officer is now on the run.
The officer allegedly went into a room where the invigilators were storing their belongings, including phones and other valuables, and ransacked the bags, according to the county police commandant Mathews Mangira.
After learning that the cash in their handbags could not be found, three victims have recorded statements.
"One of the victims reported that she lost a hundred shillings, another lost nine hundred, while the other three hundred shillings, which prompted them to consult with the school administration to review the CCTV camera" added Mr Mangira.
The officer can be seen entering the room, sitting between some handbags, and searching each one one at a time before leaving.
At the same time, Mr. Mangira stated that the detectives are reviewing the video to help produce distinct images that can be useful when putting together the case against the suspect.
