The committees of experts from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage have been contemplating on how to safely resume school games. The arguments between the two committees have been majorly on the effective way of bringing things under the Covid-19 containment measures before the start of games in schools. Their meetings at some point bore fruits, and things might be on the right track towards resumption.
According to reports from the Ministry of Sports, the two committees came to the conclusion that school games are not the problem, but how the Covid-19 measures will be adhered to by all the participants. Moreso, the ministry's PS, Mr Joe R. Okudo, CBS (below) hinted that the situation is at ripen stages, and the date of resumption will be communicated soon, but schools should ensure restrictions are followed to the latter.
According to Mr Joe, there are changes that the participating groups should strictly adjust to. Unlike as it was initially that the age limit for those students in the field was to be not more than 16 years for U16, and twenty years for U20, the current case might be unfavorable in the coming future. He elaborated that students will not be restricted from participating in the events so long as they were present in the school class register from 2020 to date. Whether the student is more than 20 years will not necessarily humper them from participating in the events.
Though the said changes on age might be a good visionary step, the credibility of ensuring that the participants follow the said rule might not be followed strictly. According to reports gathered from the previous events, even with the age of sixteen or twenty years that was initially in place, some schools could not follow the rules, as they could deliberately field their alumni groups and forge the required documents just to coincide with the requirements outlined by the ministry. Therefore, the ministry should select an integral group that should ensure the said conditions are strictly followed by schools in such games so that the objectives of the activity are met.
