College Education

Here's why you should consider studying at KMTC

There's so much anxiety and excitement in the air especially with the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates as they await campus placement by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

However, there are some students who chose to directly apply for admission in their preferred colleges/ universities, notably students who chose to pursue medical courses at the Kenya Medical Training College, which is a mid- level training institution, and the only public college in Kenya offering medical courses at Higher Diploma, Diploma and certificate levels. Additionally, it offers short courses.

The college has over 74 campuses distributed across 44 counties in Kenya. It contributes to 80% of the health workforce in Kenya. Students at the college undergo rigorous training to ensure they are competent to serve not only in Kenya but also abroad.

Recently, the college's Higher National Diploma was equated to a university degree by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority, a clear indication that the training at the college is thorough.

KMTC has two intakes in a year, that is in March and in September, with their academic year starting in September. The first batch of students, which hit a record high of over 13000 students for the academic year 2022/2023 is expected within this week, even as the application portal remains open with some courses yet to be filled.

To apply at KMTC, one needs his/her KCSE results slip and an application fee of Kshs 2,022 which is non- refundable. All applications are made online.

KMTC uses various criteria in selection of students, which include; population, poverty index, affirmative action, in addition to academic qualifications.

For a diploma course, one needs to attain a KCSE mean grade of C(plain) while for a certificate course one needs to have a mean grade of C- (minus) alongside the minimum requirements of the particular course he/she would like to pursue. Biology is a mandatory subject for one to pursue any course at the college, in addition to English/ Kiswahili, Mathematics/ Physics and Chemistry.
