Is Competency Based Curriculum In Limbo? Kenyans Left In Dilemma.

Since the implementation of competency based curriculum by education cabinet secretary many Kenyans have been left in dilemma. This is because they were not included in discussions concerning the new system of education. Former secretary general of Kenya National Union of Teachers was amongst the first Kenyans to oppose the new curriculum. Sossion lamented that competency based curriculum was too expensive.

Sossion's assertion seem to be valid when the law society of Kenya president Nelson Havi moved to court to stop the new system of education. The high court judge also moved to the court to challenge the government. The opposers of the CBC claim that the government was not fully prepared to implement the new system. They (opposers) also claim that teachers were not adequately trained hence not familiar with the new system.

A section of Kenyan parents have also lamented that competency based curriculum (CBC) is so much expensive hence complaining that the new system shall only favor children from the rich families.

As the debate continues to gain momentum the Kenya parents association have moved to court arguing that the new system is not expensive as people might think. Therefore the Kenya parents association still holds that CBC must continue.
