Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) was first introduced in Kenya in the year 2017. The curriculum is designed to impart learners with necessarily that are necessary in the job market. This is after current 8-4-4 system was blamed for being exam centered failing to impart to learners necessary skills that are required in job market.
The first cohort of CBC learners are currently sitting for grade six exams. They are expected to transition to junior secondary schools early next year. However, many parents have raised concerns about CBC. Parents have complained of expensive nature of CBC while teachers and other education stakeholders have complained of lack of proper training on CBC.
It is because of these concerns that forced President William Ruto to form an Education Task Force to look into CBC and address the grey areas raised by parents and other stakeholders.
It is now good news to parents and learners as CBC report is expected to be released on Friday December 2, 2022. This will help parents know the face of grade six learners as they prepare for next year schools reopening.
