Universities Should Not Be Allowed To Reopen Until 2022 [Opinion]

The main focus now is on President Uhuru Kenyatta whether he will reopen face to face learning in all Kenyan institutions comes May or not. Many universities have been closed down following President's directives.

Comes yesterday, the CS of education professor George Magoha assured the public that schools will be reopened as scheduled and that parents should be prepared. This message was only meant for primary and secondary schools not tertiary institutions.

Therefore in my own opinion, I suggest that universities in Kenya should remain closed until when the positivity rate would have gone down and the curve is completely flattened. Most universities in Kenya are capable of providing online learning and even administer online exams, for this reason no need of putting the lives of comrades at risk by allowing them to report back to school in the middle of the pandemic. Let them read at home until 2022 when we all believe that the positivity rate would have gone down.

The low rate of covid-19 that have recorded in the last two days is as a result of low sample size. If the government were to test at least ten thousand people in a day, we would have recorded high number of infection.
