A girl from Tana River county by the name Rukia Harun has been awarded a scholarship to cater for her studies from her current class six level. The sponsorship has been announced by the Director of National Council For People With Disabilities(NCPWD)- Harun Maalim who has confirmed the award scholarship to the girl. NCPWD ha s further committed himself to chip in to aid to offer support to Rukia since they are even sharing the same name 'Rukia', hence making him feel like its not just a coincidence to share the same name.
In his statement, the director revealed that, Rukia will get her studies until she says it is enough for her. "We will support her to the point where she tells us she is tired of her education," reports Director Maalim. Furthermore, NCPWD Executive Director has added that his council has much concern with children going to school but are disabled in some way and however it is looking forth to offer opportunities to them.
He stated that educating a disabled child would be accorded by offering a chance in their life. "If we give a child with a disability an opportunity, you see the ability in them but the moment we deny them an education, that is the moment where their disability becomes more visible," Director Maalim stated.
