The competency based curriculum (CBC) has been receiving backlash from most Kenyans. The system that was thought to be the key to lighten the burden of the 8-4-4 has proven otherwise. Currently there is a case against the curriculum filed by LSK president Nelson Havi. Today Raila Odinga has asked Uhuru to have a look at the issues being tabled.
According to the ODM party leader, the new education system is more expensive than the former system. Most parents are facing hard economic times due to the coronavirus pandemic. The rise in fuel prices has further escalated the suffering. This makes it difficult for them to earn money for paying school fees and buying text books.
There are suspicions that the court may find the ministry of education with faults in implementing the curriculum. This means that it may nullify the application of the system. This may be a boost to parents who are against it.
Nelson Havi and his team will have to work hard to fight against top lawyers who have been hired by the government. At the same time the high court has given professor George Magoha 45 days to respond to the case. He is expected deny or accept the suit. This will determine whether the case will officially kick off.
