IEBC Requirements For 2022 Aspirants After Degree Option Was Scrapped

General elections in Kenya are conducted after every five years on the month of August, the second Tuesday and for that factor, Kenya will conduct general elections next year on 9th August 2022. The race will bring together aspirants in the seats of president, governors, senators, members of parliament, women representatives and members of county assembly.

Recently high court ruled against independent electoral and boundaries commission proposed requirement of a degree for all the aspirants which only applies to the president, deputy president, governors and their deputy governors citing that the proposal came late and also the outbreak of Covid-19 disease limited interested aspirants from attaining their degrees on time.

Here are the common requirements of any interested aspirant to vie in 2022 general elections;

1. Have atleast attained the age of 18 years and above.

2. Be a Kenyan citizen.

3. Be a registered voter.

4. Be a member of a political party or an independent candidate.

5. Not bankrupt.

6. Be of sound mind.

7. Well conversant in Kiswahili or English.

8. Hold no public office other than the interested position six months prior to elections.

9. Not subject to imprisonment six months to elections.
