In the recent past, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) came up with a suggestion that the Bachelor of Education (BEd) Degree in kenya should be abolished. In its place, learners should only take bachelor of Science (BSc) Bachelor or Arts (BA).
There after, learners who are interested to be teachers should then enrol for a post graduate degree (PGDE) in education which will run for one year.
However, instead of Abolishing the whole BEd Degree program, the commission should advise universities to amend the degree.
The amendment should merge together the PGDE program together with either the BEd Arts or Sciences. The program should then be structured to run for the usual Four years.
In the New BEd Program, there should be units which train teacher students on ICT Integration in teaching and also units which touch on the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
By so doing, the teacher trainers will graduate being fully equipped with current skills to handle the 21st century Learners.
