It is unfortunate that someone who is entrusted with children decides to take advantage of an innocent child and abuse her.
A primary school teacher has been sentenced to life in prison for defiling a ten-year-old girl.
James Mawanda, a teacher at a private school in Nairobi, was found guilty of defiling the pupil from the same school.
Mr Mwanda is said to have defiled the girl at his home in Katwekere area within Nairobi.
The girl revealed that the teacher used tricks to invite her to his house for a test but he never disclosed the kind of test he was going to conduct.
The minor further disclosed that the suspects would on several occasions give her Sh100, but on the day he defiled her, he gave her Sh200.
After committing the crime, the suspect warned the girl not to inform anyone. However, the girl informed her mother who reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
Mwanda was arraigned in court and charged with defiling a minor.
In his defence, Mawanda told the court that he is HIV positive. However, the courthvdenied his defense terming it weak and unreliable.
