Teaching is a very noble profession. Many known politicians in the world started as low as being primary school teachers. For example, the first President of the Republic of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was a school principal before joining politics. The second President Daniel Toroich Arap Moi also served as a teacher at the Tambach teachers training college before entering politics in 1957.

In Tanzania, President John Pombe Magufuli who died on Wednesday at the age of 61 had also served as a teacher. He had pursued a Diploma in Education Science, with specialization in Chemistry and Mathematics. He rose from a humble background of being a primary school teacher for 20 years before ruling the Republic of Tanzania for six years till his death. During his leadership as a President, Tanzania has experienced a boost in economic growth. He will be remembered to be a no-nonsense leader who showed zero tolerance to corrupt government officials.
