Matiang'i And Magoha Listed Among The Respondents in a Petition at The High Court of Kenya Over CBC

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr Fred Matiang'i together with Education CS Prof George Magoha have been listed among the respondents in a petition filed at the High Court of Kenya challenging implementation of the recently launched Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) system in Kenyan schools.

The petition was filed by Esther Ang'awa and 8 respondents were listed. Among them include the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), the two Cabinet Secretaries mentioned earlier, among others (see the attached list).

CBC system was flagged in 2018 to replace the former 8-4-4 system which reigned for more the 32 years. Parents and other education stakeholders have however been protesting against the CBC citing the high cost of implementation in terms of time and resources.

Magoha recently defended the new system claiming it to be one of President Uhuru's legacies. He claimed that the prior system produced half baked professionals and alot of talent wasted. He challenged those against CBC to front facts and stop dragging his name in the political arena. He added that majority of the leaders protesting against the system are just doing so for political purposes.
