The Ministry of Education banned corporal punishment from schools. This is after many teachers went rogue and severely injured pupils and students in the name of instilling discipline. Schools were therefore required to set up guidance and counseling departments where students were to be advised on the way forward.
However, some schools are still punishing students and pupils if they are found guilty of flouting school rules. The majority of them usually send them for suspension while others have their parents summoned to have a word with their children.
A section of Kenyans has been divided after a photo of three schoolchildren tied together tightly circulated on social media. The photo which is rumored to have been taken from Thiru Primary School has left many Kenyans confused.
Many cannot tell if the three pupils were being punished by being tied around a tree or were they learning since the Competency-Based Curriculum has changed the majority of things in schools.
Those who believed that the pupils were being punished demanded immediate action from the Ministry of Education since they considered the act inhuman. Others said maybe they were learning how the slave trade was being done in the early years. Here are some of the reactions.
