The Government is in the process of overhauling the teaching profession.Teachers are getting retrained due to the new CBC curriculum that has proved to be tedious for even the parents apart from the teachers and students.Currently, teachers are expected to begin their TPD trainings amid criticisms from them. The biting fees and contract renewal are the major bone of contentions.
The trained ECDE and P1 teachers are also back to classrooms for the one year Diploma Upgrade Program. This may also see majority of the teachers strain to go back for the trainings due to the huge thousands of shillings needed as fees for the program.
The Government has made up some changes that will see the students who want to be primary school teachers get admitted with a different body.Normally, the Ministry of Education do carry out the admissions for the P1 teachers. This time,it will be different.
The Ministry of Education has said that these teachers will be recruited through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service. This is likely to pave way for this group of teachers to get the HELB loans. All students who get recruited by KUCCPS qualify for loans from Diploma levels. Now that these teachers are currently undertaking their Diploma trainings, possibilities of getting these crucial loans are very high.
