Secondary Or Primary Schools? - Sossion Reveals Where CBC Grade 7 Pupils Will Be Learning Next Year

January 2022 is going to be a special year in Kenya's education system as the Country is set to watch a transition of an old education system to a a new system.

The pioneers of the new education system, (competency based curriculum) are set to join Grade 7 which is considered a junior secondary while standard 8 pupils are also expected to transit to form one as defined under the old 8-4-4 system.

However, the cloud of uncertainty is still hanging over the transition of the new curriculum pioneers to their junior secondary schools. Questions are still asked whether they will be joining secondary schools or will be continuing with their secondary education while in the primary section.

And while speaking to K24 this morning, former Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion now says that in the meetings that have been held in the recent past, he is told people have unanimously agreed that the students should take their junior secondary education while in the primary section.

According to the former nominated member of parliament, this is likely to happen since it is in the primary section where there is enough facilities to accommodate the pupils who will be ready for transition come January.

"And from the little information, I have heard from the meetings that it is unanimous that Grade 7 will be domiciled in the primary sector. Because one, there are classrooms, two, households will not be required to pay school fees." Said Sossion.
