Good News for Comrades as CS Magoha Announces Reopening Date for Universities

University students and over 100,000 2019 KCSE exams candidates who qualified for university education have something to smile about.

This is after Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Saturday, June 20, directed the Vice-Chancellors and Principals of Universities to come up with reopening plans for September.

In a letter sent to all VCs and Principals, Magoha has asked the Universities to come up with prevention protocols to curb the spread of coronavirus when studies resume.

Mogoha stated that the government has opted for September as the reopening month for learning institutions.

The CS has further directed the learning institutions which are being used as a quarantine facilities to liaise with the Ministry of Health and prepare for the transfer of patients to other identified centers.

"Once the patients are transferred, you must ensure the facilities used during treatment are properly fumigated for safe use in line with the guidelines from the Ministry of Health,” he said

He also directed Universities to come up with plans on how students will come back to the institutions.

“Universities should, therefore, make sure that students and staff who might not be able to get back are facilitated to continue with teaching and learning remotely,” the statement reads.

Universities will also be required to have clean running water and soap for handwashing or hand sanitizer as a condition for reopening.

The institutions will also be required to sanitize often-touched objects such as doorknobs, light switches, and stair railings with disinfectant.

Lecture halls and common places will akso be modified to ensure adequate space for social distancing.
