What Teachers Service Commission Should Do Before Schools Reopen For Second Term (Opinion)

Teachers in Kenya are employed by the Teachers Service Commission(TSC). The commission gets the money from the Ministry of Education that is meant to run the affairs of teachers countrywide.

Since the government started the 100% transition of learners from Primary school to secondary, there has been a challenge in the teaching sector. The shortage of teachers has been the main problem.

In my view, the TSC needs to employ more than 15,000 teachers every year in a bid to cut the shortage. It should be remembered that thousands of tutors retire every year.

For example, all learning institutions have closed today after completing the first term. The commission should take advantage and recruit more trained teachers such that when learning resumes it becomes much easier for those with a heavy workload.
