Today, both the primary and secondary school teachers who are not yet employed are happy lots following the TSC's recruitment advert. Some of these teachers have been waiting in the cold for over ten years especially the P1 teachers.Unfortunately, the Government has avertised lesser primary teaching slots as compared to the secondary schools' slots. In the advert, some 1000 practising primary school teachers will also benefit from the promotions to secondary schools. Some of these teachers have been waiting since 2014 when TSC froze automatic promotions upon attainment of higher academic qualifications.
In the last two rounds of deployment,TSC has never disclosed the number of slots awarded to counties and the subject combinations prior to release of the deployment letters. The teachers have had hard times trying even to know which combinations are competitive in their counties and how many applicants do each combination has per county. These questions have gone unanswered.
In the 2020 deployment, some teachers received letters up to May this year. These letters are released differently per county. Some Counties such as Homabay,Vihiga,Kakamega,Migori,Kisumu had either less than five letters or completely no letters.
In 2019,most of the Counties received above 20 letters per county.TSC is likely to share all the 1000 slots equally per county the way it has done for the new P1 recruits in all the 47 counties as below:
Inorder to promote equity in all the counties, the Commission is likely to distribute the slots as above such that out of the 1000 slots, each country could receive between 21 and 22.This may hugely reward some counties with less qualified teachers.
