Education Cabinet Secretary if education Prof George Magoha has today released the 2021/2022 students placement into universities and colleges at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi.

While speaking during the release of the placement report, Magoha directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to come up with an inter-institution transfer process to help students align their courses and move from one university or college to the other.

“To enable successful applicants to proceed with alignment of their courses, I am directing Kenya Universities and Colledges Cebtral Placement Service to conduct the Inter-Institution transfer process online from September 1st to September 30th, 2021,” Magoha stated.

According to the reports from placement service , 265,145 students are set to pursue degree and TVET courses in the 2021/2022 academic year. KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome said 128,073 students have been placed in different universities to pursue degree courses while 137,072 will join TVET institutions.

Meanwhile proffesor Magoha noted that a new trend has risen where candidates who qualify for university admission are increasingly joining TVET courses despite having attained grades to join university.

According to the Cabinet Secretary , in the 2020 KCSE, 6,617 students who attained C+ and above chose TVET programmes and were placed, up from 2,632 in the year 2019.

The CS urged teachers to work hand in hand with students and guide them in line with what they are strong at, rather than focusing solely on accelerating the students to get university admission.

According to the George Magoha Cabinet Secretary, some students long to join the police service and defense forces, therefore, it is unfair to push them into joining universities, yet that is not what they want to pursue.
