Hon. Beatrice Elachi, the Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North, has called on the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, to provide a report on the preparedness for the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Junior Secondary Schools located in informal settlements, specifically those in Nairobi City County.
This call comes in light of concerns over the ability of schools in these areas to effectively implement the CBC. The CBC is a new curriculum that has been designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge that are relevant to their future careers.
It is meant to eventually replace the previous 8-4-4 curriculum and has been implemented in grades 1-6 and now junior secondary level. However, there have been concerns over the readiness of schools in informal settlements to adopt the new curriculum.
Hon. Elachi's call for a report from the CS for Education is a necessary step in ensuring that the implementation of the CBC in informal settlements is successful. The report will help to identify any challenges that may hinder the effective implementation of the curriculum and provide solutions to overcome them.
It is important to note that the successful implementation of the CBC in informal settlements is crucial for the future of the children living in these areas.
The curriculum is meant to equip them with skills and knowledge that will enable them to thrive in the modern world. Failure to implement it effectively in these areas may lead to a widening gap between children from informal settlements and those from other areas
