The Ministry of Education has released the new secondary and primary school calendar for 2023. The first term will begin on January 23 and end on April 21, 2023, as the calendar indicates.
The second term will begin on May 3 and last for 13 weeks, concluding on August 2. The third term will begin on August 28, 2023, and run for ten weeks, ending on November 3, 2021.
Ezekiel Machogu, the CS for education, has also reported an increase in tuition costs. For one thing, the government has stopped providing the aid it had been. Sh53,554 will now be paid annually for tuition at national and extra county schools, up from Sh45,000. It has been decided that county school students' fees will be raised to Sh40,000.
Increases in secondary school tuition have been mandated by the government of Kenya, according to this report: https://educationnewshub.co.ke/government-increases-secondary-school-fees-for-2023/?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://educationnewshub.co.ke/government-increases-secondary-school-fees-for-2023/&ved=2ahUKEwjZ
The fee increase has been met with criticism from parents. They are complaining that the government is raising fees at a time when the economy is struggling. They claim they are unsure of the next steps.
