Latest Education News Making Headlines for Primary & Secondary Schools

From our news desk, major news have been announced seeking the attention of all primaries and secondary schools. On that note, I'll start by;

1. Recruitment of Teachers to Primary and Secondary Schools

Fresh details have emerged as the employer of teachers (Teachers Service Commission) has announced that teachers will be employed to various primary and secondary schools in Kenya this year.

As per the report issued by The Nation, TSC has announced that four thousand teachers are supposed to be employed to secondary schools across the country.

This is expected to cater for the 100 percent transition policy where all students from primary schools join secondary schools irrespective of the marks they scored in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

In addition, 2, 987 secondary teachers will also be employed to replace the retired ones or the others who may exit office through different reasons like resignations or death.

A total of 1000 teachers who are currently teaching in primary schools but had upgraded their qualifications will also be deployed to teach in secondary schools.

2. Teacher's Strike Ahead of First Term in August, 2021

This is also a big news to the primary and secondary schools that has hit our headlines today. Teachers are now demanding for a quick response from the Teacher's Service Commission (TSC) concerning their salaries or go on strike.

The Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has spelled out that teachers will not report back to school in August if TSC does not guarantee their speculations.

"We have given the TSC 7 days to give us a counter-offer; Failure to that, we will ask teachers not to report to schools for the 2021 first term commencing in August 2021," Akelo Misori, SG of KUPPET said.
