Laikipia University graduates must be a happy lot after the institution announced the day of collecting certificates and transcripts. The graduates had been disappointed by the university's delay to release the documents after their graduation which happened on August this year.
In a memo dated 29th March, graduates from different schools will pick on specific dates starting from 6th December to 10th December. It further stated that any certificate not collected later than 7 March, 2022 will attract a penalty of Ksh 1000 and storage fee of the same amount per subsequent year.
Many of the graduates claimed that the institution's delay was locking them out of opportunities. The varsity had been hit hard by coronavirus pandemic which slowed down most of its activities.
A large group of students were supposed to graduate in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID. This saw a large group of 2018, 2019 and 2020 final year students being delayed to graduate. The announcement by the institution is a relief for most who had completed their studies but had nowhere to go because nothing proved they had completed their studies.
