We can all say that today's demonstration which was done by students countrywide was not in vain. This was after the Cabinet Secretary for the ministry of education, professor George Magoha assured the Kenya Universities Student Organization (KUSO) leader that there won't be fee increment. This news has brought back happiness to students, parents and the general public.
The Universities, represented by Antony Manyara -former KUSO chairman and the ministry of Education, represented by the CS had a dialogue today. During the meeting the CS claims that he haven't received any proposal to increase the fee on his desk, and in case there should any he would immediately reject it.
Manyara on his official Facebook page posted the message on the same, its easy to conclude that the vice chancellors are the cause of chaos in the county as they sent the fee increment proposal directly to the National Treasury without involving the CS in decision making at large. Manyara added and said that he is fighting to see that accessing education is at its lowest level in terms of cost if not totally free.
A meeting between the same bodies is to be held to discuss about the increment of HELB allocation in the varsities and collages. HELB through their official twitter page up-to date haven't commented on the fee slashing.
