The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed the freezing of top Tertiary Institution Kenyatta University. This has caused panic among the students, staff and other parties allied to the Institution.
Kenyatta University's Auditor General Mrs. Nancy Gathungu noted that the cash-strapped institution was still likely to face a worsening financial situation if the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) had not frozen their accounts.
The move to freeze Kenyatta University's accounts was as a result of the University's non-remitance to statutory deductions required of any Tertiary Institution in Kenya. This failure by Kenyatta University might have been accelerated by the effects of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) now wants Kenyatta University (KU) to observe the annual compulsory remittance to statutory deductions.
Kenyatta University students have been urged to remain even as tension begin to grip them. The University has confirmed that the Institution's body is working to curve out a way out of the prevailing situation.
