A secondary school in Nyamira county has been indefinitely closed down following the mysterious death of one of its students.
Nyakemincha Secondary School was closed after a Form Three student was found dead and his body dumped in a shallow river adjacent to the school.
The student died in uncertain circumstances, in an incident that caused an uproar among parents at the school.
Reports indicate that the student was unwell on May 17 but was treated at Kinara hospital in Nyamira town and discharged after complaining of fever symptoms.
His lifeless body was later in the same afternoon discovered at the bank of the river.
No tests are yet to be done to ascertain what killed the student but the death has caused horror among parents who fear for their children's safety.
Additionally, several students from the same institution are receiving treatment at a local hospital as a result of “fever outbreak’ in the school two weeks ago.
Parents from the school called for mass testing to prevent the possible spread of the disease.
