Higher Education Loans Board Reveals Counties With The Highest Number of HELB Beneficiaries

The Higher Education Loans Board is a state department under the ministry of education which is mandated with the sole responsibility of issuing loans to students who are pursuing various courses in universities, colleges and other tertiary institutions. It was founded in the year 1995 and since then it has played a significant role in facilitating the studies of students especially those from poor backgrounds .

According to the HELB report for this year, Bungoma and Kakamega counties are leading in the number of beneficiaries of the loans from the board.

HELB Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ringera also hinted during the report release that plans are underway to have counties establish revolving funds which they can use to support their students .

The report showed that a total of 14.4 billion shillings were issued to 354069 students in various institutions of higher learning.

From this number, counties in North Eastern and coast region produced the least beneficiaries.
