University Placement; Majority Of Candidates Admitted To Institutions, 128,073 To Pursue Degrees

The majority of students who took the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) last year were placed in a variety of institutions and colleges to pursue their chosen disciplines.

There will be a total of 265,145 students pursuing degrees and TVET programs.

According to Agnes Wahome, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), 128,073 students will pursue degree programs, while 137, 072 will follow TVET programs.

Wahome, speaking at the launch of the 2021-2022 University and College Placement Report, noted that in 2020, more students applied to TVET programs than in 2019.

TVET courses were chosen by 6,617 students with a C+ or higher, up from 2,632 in 2019.

"We encourage students to look beyond our borders in areas like ICT, agriculture, technology, and other 21st-century careers," she advised.

The Education Cabinet Secretary claimed that this year's selection process was precise, but he lamented how parents slowed the government's efforts by enrolling their children in universities through the "back door."

"There is a lower level of admission." We placed children properly, but parents found other ways to transfer their children due to corruption," Magoha stated.

Only 2,506 (24%) of the 10,437 secondary schools that were registered examination centres in 2020 submitted their KCSE candidates' choices, according to Magoha.

The CS also stated that TVET applications and admissions have increased this year, encouraging more learners to enroll in TVET courses to enhance or gain new skills.

"In comparison to last year, placements to TVET institutions increased by 54% this year. Despite the government's efforts, however, TVET enrolment remains low, "Magoha said.

7,000 students, on the other hand, did not apply to universities, colleges, or TVETs.

Candidates can find out more about their placement by sending their index number to SMS code 20842.
