Moi university is one of the prestigious institutions of higher learning in Kenya serving most parts of North rift region. However, by the look of things, the institution is going through a state of financial crisis. This is after the auditor general declared the university as insolvent or bankrupt.
According to the auditor general, the institution is currently having large amount of debts summing to approximately 4.5 billions shillings. According to the report from his office, Moi university can not at the moment manage to pay off its debtors. The institution has in the recent past undergone criticism of nepotism after revelations of most departments within it being headed by members from the same community. The center for higher learning us currently headed by professor Isaac Kosgey. The government move to reduce funds allocated to universities has greatly affected operations. This has caused most universities to hike their respective college fees.
